The big news yesterday was the early morning manhunt in Erie around the 26th Street and Brown Avenue area. Police responded to a call around 4 a.m. only to be confronted with gun shots and a home set on fire. Robert Daniels, 42, is suspected in causing the mayhem. Daniels’ remains were found in the burnt out home on the 1300 hundred block of W. 25th Street. It’s still unclear why events unfolded as they did. Commentor Ron had this to say:
From looking at the ErieCountyGov.org info, Daniel’s house was either purchased 4 years ago and refinanced a year ago, or purchased by him a year ago after someone lived there for 4 years. Either way, he had a Survivorship Deed on the house, which I’m assuming means the woman inherits the property if she was named in the deed.
Joel Natalie at Press and Tower had this to say:
I was riveted by pictures and accounts from 12 News’ Emily Matson as she related the situation from the area around the west side Tops Market.
If you live near that area, what was it like and how did you receive information about what was going on and to stay in your home (preferably your basement)?

A critical shortage of blood has developed as a result of low donor turnout during the holidays. Levels of blood dropped across the board with the supply of type O Positive falling to critically low levels. The Community Blood Bank was able to ‘borrow’ 50 units of type O Positive blood from Indiana over the weekend but levels remain critically low.
January is National Blood Donor Month! The reason Congress chose January is because it is one of the hardest months of the year on the nation’s blood supply. To celebrate National Blood Donor Month the CBB is giving away a 42″ Hi Def Plasma TV to one lucky donor this January. Everyone who tries to give blood at any CBB blood drive now through January 31st is automatically entered to win.

All donors are strongly encouraged to donate at the Community Blood Bank, 2646 Peach Street. Community Blood Bank is open from 9a.m. 6p.m. Monday through Friday and until 7:30pm Tuesday night and Saturday 9a.m.-12:30 p.m. Photo ID required.

This morning’s manhunt and area lockdown has ended, and police believe the suspect, Robert Daniels, 42, may have died inside one the houses he set on fire.
Most streets have reopened, but Blessed Sacrament school remains closed. WSEE is reporting that West Communications remains locked down as Daniels was recently fired from there and may remain locked down until they have complete proof that Daniels perished in one of the house fires.
We’ll have more on this in tomorrow’s news post.
